Find the greatest happiness in ordinary days.
These are the words imprinted on each page of my favorite notepad. Does the quote seems to contradict itself? Maybe you’re thinking, how could you be happy in such an ordinary day?
I used to think that an action-packed day is how you define a happy day: being outdoors, spending time with friends, chasing life from dawn till dusk all the way to midnight. As some say, sleep is for the weak. Yes, it’s a fun feeling when adrenaline pumps into your veins. It’s a different kind of high. But some things change along with the passing of time.
It may sound cliché, but as I grow older, I realized that happiness is just a state of mind; that real happiness depends solely on you: the way you see the world, the way you live your life, the way you define happiness itself. It’s all in the palm of your hand.
Some days may seem boring than the others, the clock seems to tick slower than the usual. But life is not a race, sometimes it helps to slow down a bit. Take time to smell the flowers, to listen to the rhythm of the rain tapping on the roof above your head, to feel the gentle breeze against your face, to pat your pet lying down lazily beside you on the couch, to watch the clouds drift by, to sleep under the stars, to watch the sunrise from your roof while sipping a hot cup of coffee. And the list goes on and on. It only proves that in this modern world where money could almost buy anything, the best things in life are still free.
